My absolute FAVORITE thing about awards season is the fashion! I love, love, love tuning in to see what everyone is wearing and which dresses each starlet chose. To be honest, the 2011 Golden Globes did no impress me too much as far as the fashion goes, but there were some standouts who managed to look elegant, classic, and youthful.
The Daily Mail does a fabulous job rounding up all the dresses of the night, but here are my favorites.

Carrie Underwood's gown might seem tame compared to some choices that night, but it fits her like a glove and the detail on the dress adds a certain je ne sais quoi that prevents the dress from being too plain.
Mandy Moore's dress was one of my favorites from the night. The unexpected navy color looks gorgeous with her hair and skin tone and I'm a fit fan of a dress being fitted on the top and more flow-y at the bottom. A nice twist on the mermaid dress.
Megan Fox is hot. It's undeniable. Yet she often seems to be missing a bit of tastefulness. However, I love this pink dress. I think the detailing on the top and the tight fit still plays to her tough girl/ bombshell persona while being appropriate for an elegant black-tie affair. I might have to name this my absolute favorite of the night.

Kaley Cuoco looked like a princess in this dress (not counting Olivia Wilde, who was there and is actually a princess). The bottom is unique and different enough, but I'm glad she played it down with the soft color and simple top. Also, how adorbs was she when her Big Bang Theory co-star won?! Loved it.
In the middle is Miss Golden Globe, which is typically a young daughter of a major Hollywood player. This year it was Gia Mantegna, and she looks beautifully statuesque. I love dressed cinched in the middle with a ribbon like that (hello junior year prom dress!). It's hard to show up as a virtual no-name at an event attended by anyone who's anyone in Hollywood and garner such attention, so two thumbs up for this one!
Sarah Hyland is from Modern Family, one of my favorite, can't-miss shows on TV right now (Wednesday at 9, ABC, WATCH IT). Not only is her dress gorgeous, with intricate beading at the top, but I'm captivated by her beautiful necklace and her hair style. Maybe I'm just not used to seeing her hair up with bangs, but she rocks it.
As you might be able to tell, I'm a big fan of the sweetheart neckline and strapless, fitted gown. I think it looks very old Hollywood, and isn't too over the top that the actual person in the dress goes unnoticed. Whenever you're getting dressed for a fancy occasion, you don't want to be the person who looks back on pictures in 5 years and thinks "What was I thinking?!" I love the overall look of all these dresses because they really are trend defying. They're simple, yet sophisticated, and all very charming!
